Liquid diets are usually prescribed by a doctor and not something people readily opt for on their own. Medical professionals often recommend a liquid diet prior to surgery or various procedures and tests like colonoscopy. The benefit of a liquid diet is that it keeps the body hydrated with water, salt and minerals but it doesn’t leave residue in the stomach and intestines. This is important during some medical procedures where cameras and probes need to be maneuvered inside someone’s body.

Many people can eat their favorite foods and lose some weight. Some people eat nutritious food, but they eat too much of it. Cutting down on portion sizes can often be a great way of healthy dieting. People might want to eat less but eat more often to make sure that they do not have the cravings that lead them to fail at dieting. Sometimes people cheat because they leave too much time between meals. People might eliminate certain foods from their diets in order to lose weight. Desserts often have many empty calories so eliminating all sweets after a meal might result in weight loss.
