Actually right now Im waiting for the pediatrician to call back. I’m pretty sure my son has acid reflux. How do you really know if he’s spitting up ot vomiting?? When he spits up/vomits its usually more clear with formula it it. Not all the time bust more. And its larger amounts when it comes up. Sometimes its thick and mucousy. How do you really know the difference?? Thanks
spit up is more clear w/ formula added to it and comes out in a small amount , Vomiting usually is a little more forceful and can come out thick but .. still it can be thin and watery depending on how much formula you have given him , also when my son had acid reflux he would vomit and at times it would come out his nose which they told me was normal and he would gasp for air , make sure you keep a suction bulb handy and if you get worried about the vomiting during sleep time let your son sleep in a upright position to reduce the chances of choking ..

my 6 month old has reflux and is on prevacid and axid. in MY case, he would spit up a lot and scream while being fed. most babies have reflux. it just means that their little systems are not mature yet. if he doesnt seem bothered, dont worry about it. spitting up is a laundry problem, not a health prob. just be aware of when u feed him, does he cry during or after u feed him. u can try holding him more upright while feeding and then make sure he doesnt lay down for about 20 min. after he eats.u can also put some rice cereal in his bottle to thicken it up so it stays down. good luck
spit up is usually saliva with a mixture of formula/milk. It is a smaller amount than vomit. Vomit looks like the bottle just came right back up.
spit up tends to just be formula and saliva, vomit you’ll notice a curdled smell with the liquid, it may even be curdled.
perhaps try burping baby a bit longer, some lil ones need more than others in that dept. (IF its spit up)
It doesn’t really matter the only criteria are:
1) Is it causing the baby pain?
2) Is it effecting the baby’s weight gain?
If you didn’t say yes to one of those questions it is NOT a medical problem -it is a laundry problem.http://www.kellymom.com/babyconcerns/ref…
If your baby is a ‘Happy Spitter’ –gaining weight well, spitting up without discomfort and content most of the time — spitting up is a laundry & social problem rather than a medical issue.
A few statistics (for all babies, not just breastfed babies):
* Spitting up usually occurs right after baby eats, but it may also occur 1-2 hours after a feeding.
* Half of all 0-3 month old babies spit up at least once per day.
* Spitting up usually peaks at 2-4 months.
* Many babies outgrow spitting up by 7-8 months.
* Most babies have stopped spitting up by 12 months.
